Danville Fire Department Engine 3 was dispatched to Lockett Drive off South Main for a smoke investigation call. They arrived in the area at 2253 hours. After investigating, Engine 3 found a house across the street with light smoke showing. Further investigation revealed moderate smoke inside the house. The call was upgraded to a full assignment to include a total of three engines, one ladder, and two support vehicles. Engine 3 found a fire in the basement of the vacant house. The fire was quickly extinguished. The basement and first floor were searched and the entire house was cleared of smoke.
The Assistant Fire Marshall responded and determined the fire was arson. Fire damage to the house was minor. Smoke damage extended throughout the house. 16 fire personnel were on scene for 1 hour and 47 minutes. There were no injuries and no one is currently living in the house. The investigation is ongoing.
