The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with victims trapped this morning. The first engine arrived on the scene first at 00:51 am and reported heavy fire showing from the front of the residence. One occupant had escaped the home but one was still trapped inside. Fire crews using a ladder entered the home through a window as the fire was blocking access through the door. They were able to locate the victim and remove him out the window while another crew attempted to control the fire. Both victims were transported to DRMC for further evaluation. The fire was extinguished and the home was heavily damaged. A family dog perished in the fire.
While one of the occupants was refilling a kerosene heater, fuel spilled on and around the heater and ignited. The fire spread quickly to the rest of the house.
The DFD responded with 4 engines, 1 aerial ladder and 3 support vehicles. A total of 23 personnel were on the scene for 2 hours and 6 minutes.
