At 2pm this afternoon the Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a single story home on McLaughlin St., just off Beaver's Mill Rd. When units arrived they found the home with heavy smoke and flames coming from one corner of the structure. Crews were informed by neighbors that no one was home. Attack lines were deployed and the fire was knocked down on the outside and then the crew went inside. The fire had gotten into the attic and was starting to extend through that area. The attack crew opened the ceiling and extinguished the fire and ventilated the home. A search was done of the house to make sure no one was inside. The house and deck sustained moderate damage and the Fire Marshal's Office determined the blaze was caused by discarded smoking material. The house cannot be occupied until repairs are made and the Red Cross is assisting the two occupants with a temporary place to stay.
