The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 718 East Green Street at 8:07pm this evening. Crews arrived on scene at 8:09pm and found light smoke coming from the eve of a two story residential house. Engine 1's crew from Lynn Street fire station entered the structure and found numerous small fires in the walls. The fire was extinguished in the bedroom wall with a fire extinguisher. While doing overhaul of the structure they found extension of fire into the attic area of the house. The fire was quickly extinguished using an attack line. A search of the structure found no occupants inside. The house sustained minor smoke and fire damage in the second story bedroom. The house also sustained minor water damage to the first floor. Salvage was done to the first floor by spreading tarps and removing insulation and debris.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit and one fire marshal. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department and Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene. Fifteen fire personnel were on the scene for one hour and 38 minutes. The fire marshal investigated and determined that an electrical short caused the fire. The occupants were unable to return to the house. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
