The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at Columbia Flooring at 100 Maxine Road at 7:05 pm. Engine 4 arrived at 7:09 pm to find heavy smoke showing from a bay door. Engine companies entered the building and found heavy fire in the area of a manufacturing line at the facility. The sprinkler system was operating properly and was slowing the spread of the fire. The fire was controlled by the DFD.
The fire was in a production area of the plant and caused extensive damage to machinery and electrical equipment. According to plant officials this section of the plant will be closed for 2 - 3 days. The fire cause is under investigation.
There are no injuries reported at the fire. The DFD responded with 5 engines, 1 ladder, and multiple support vehicles. As of 10:25 pm most apparatus was still on scene.
An updated release will be sent once the fire cause is determined by the Fire Marshal's Office.
