The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported propane leak outside at 325 Westover Drive this afternoon at 3:04 pm. Crews arrived at 3:08 pm and found a medium sized cloud of propane gas coming from a 500 gallon propane tank beside this address. Three businesses were evacuated and Westover Drive was shut down. Crews then used the apparatus mounted master stream to disperse the cloud, then set up a mobile master stream and pulled a hand line to approach the tank. Two valves were cut off on the propane tank and the leak stopped at 3:44 pm. Total product loss was approximately 200 gallons of propane.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, two support units and one fire marshal. The Danville Police Department assisted on scene. Nineteen fire personnel were on the scene for two hours and 25 minutes. There were no injuries reported. A ruptured line from the tank to the compressor was the cause of the leak.
The evacuated businesses were monitored for gas. No gas was found inside the buildings and all were allowed to return to their business at 4:15 pm. All fire units cleared the scene and returned to service at 5:33 pm.
