The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 129 Benefield Street this evening at 7:39pm. Crews arrived at 7:43pm and found light smoke coming from the rear of a small one story residential house. Crews pulled an attack line, a back up line and began an offensive interior attack on the fire. Upon entering the structure, they encountered a small fire in kitchen. A ventilation fan was set up and an interior search of the structure found no one inside. The fire was quickly extinguished and determined to be under control at 7:48pm. The house sustained minor fire and smoke damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a ladder truck, a command unit and one support unit. The Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department and Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire was investigated and found to be unattended cooking. Nineteen fire personnel were on the scene for 34 minutes. There were no injuries reported. The occupants will be staying with friends until the house is repaired.
