The Danville Fire Department responded to a house fire this morning at 8:44 AM. The first unit arrived at 8:48 AM and viewed smoke showing from the house. E5 entered the house and found the kitchen cabinets on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. The occupants advised there was a dog in the house. The dog was quickly located under a bed in a back bedroom. The dog was not injured. All people were out of the house when we arrived.
The Fire Marshal's Office determined the fire was caused by unattended cooking. The remainder of the house suffered minor smoke damage. Repairs will need to be made before the occupants can live in the house. The Red Cross is helping the five adults and two dogs that reside in the house.
The DFD responded with 3 engines, 1 ladder, and 3 support vehicles. 18 personnel were on scene for approximately two hours. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Utilities, and the Danville Police Department also assisted on the scene.
