The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 221 First Street at 12:26 am this morning for a fire on the front porch of a house. Engine 5 arrived and found a moderate fire burning on the porch. The fire was quickly extinguished. Further investigation revealed the fire did not extend into the interior of the house. The porch received damage to the floor, ceiling, and siding of the house. The Fire Marshal responded to the scene to investigate. She deemed the fire as an arson. The investigation is ongoing.
The occupant was asleep at the time the fire was started. He heard something on the front porch and got up to investigate. He found the fire and exited the residence. He was not injured. He will be staying with a family member the rest of the night.
The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, one ladder, and three support vehicles. 18 personnel stayed on scene for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
