UPDATE: 7/5/18 2:20pm. - One civilian died at the scene of the fire. Fire crews found the victim while controlling the fire and searching the residence. The incident remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office. Danville Police also helped with the investigation. The name of the victim has not been released until confirmation has been completed. The victim has been carried to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke. More information will be released upon receiving the report from the Medical Examiner.

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 213 First Street this morning at 3:47am. Crews arrived at 3:53 am and found heavy smoke coming from a medium sized 1-story house. Engine 5’s crew pulled 1¾” fire hose and began an exterior attack on the fire. Engine 1’s crew secured a water supply for Engine 5 and then pulled an additional hose line for extinguishment. The house sustained heavy fire and smoke damage throughout the structure.
The Danville Fire Department responded with four engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, one support unit and one Fire Marshal. Twenty fire personnel responded to the scene and crews are still operating on the scene.
The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department and the Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office at this time.
