The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 150 Rocklawn Avenue this morning at 7:40 am. Crews arrived at 7:43 am and found moderate smoke coming from the front roof area of a medium sized 2-story house. Ladder 1’s crew pulled a 1¾” fire hose and entered the house to locate the fire. Engine 1’s crew secured a water supply for Ladder 1. Engine 1’s crew then set up a fan to ventilate the structure. Engine 5’s crew secured utilities to the structure and then searched the house for occupants. Engine 2’s crew pulled a backup line. Engine 7's crew established a Rapid Intervention Crew.
The fire was located in an upstairs bedroom and Ladder 1’s crew began extinguishing the fire.The fire was knocked down and determined to be under control at 8:02 am.
The occupants of the house was located outside of the house with one-occupant receiving first-degree burns to the face/ head. The Danville Life Saving Crew treated the patient on scene and transported the patient to SOVAH Hospital - Emergency Room.
The house sustained moderate fire and smoke damage in the upstairs bedroom and smoke and water damage on the first floor.
The Danville Fire Department responded with four engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, two-support units and two Fire Marshals. Twenty-two fire personnel were on the scene for 1 hour and 44 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Danville Electric Department and the Danville Water and Gas Department assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and determined to be carless handling of smoking materials. The occupants will be staying with family members.
