The Danville Fire responded to a reported structure fire at 778 Melville Ave.The call was originally received as a fire alarm at the residence.Upon arrival crews encountered heavy fire coming from the first and second floor windows of the structure on the right side. Not knowing if anyone was inside crews made entry and searched for possible victims while another crew attacked the fire. The search revealed no one was inside and crews were able to bring the fire under control in about thirty minutes. Crews continued to work to extinguish hidden fires for several hours before clearing the scene. The cause of the fire was determined to be shorted electrical equipment. Four engines, one ladder truck, a Safety Officer, and one Chief Officer were on the scene for two and a half hours. No injuries were reported.
