The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a possible kitchen grease fire at 117 Spring Avenue on January 19th at 6:10 pm. The first engine company arrived to find a small, one-story house with heavy smoke and fire showing from windows and a door. The fire was extinguished quickly. The house received significant fire damage. There was also smoke and heat damage to the rest of the house. The occupants, two adults and two children, were out of the house when we arrived. They will not be able to return to the house until the damage has been repaired. The value of the house and contents is $48,700. Saved property and contents is valued at $29,500.
The cause of the fire was unattended cooking. The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, one safety officer, and one battalion chief. Personnel remained on scene for almost two hours. The DFD received support from the Danville Life Saving Crew and Danville Utilities. The occupants are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
