The Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire this morning at 7:16 AM. Engine 5 arrived four minutes later at 1414 North Main Street to find a one-story house with heavy fire covering the entire front of the house. The fire started on the front porch and had extended into the front rooms of the house as well as the attic. The fire was controlled in approximately 15 minutes. The occupant of the house had exited the structure before DFD apparatus arrived. There was no one else in the house. The front rooms and attic suffered significant fire damage and the rest of the house received smoke and heat damage. The house is no longer habitable. The Red Cross is assisting the occupant.
The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, a safety officer, members of the Fire Marshal’s Office, and two chief officers. Personnel remained on scene for two and a half hours. The Danville Police Department, Danville Life Saving Crew, and Danville Utilities provided assistance.The Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire and determined the cause to be arson. This appears to be an isolated incident. The investigation is ongoing.
