The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at Unarco Industries at 255 Stinson Drive this morning at 8:04 AM. Engine 7 and Ladder 1 arrived four minutes later and were advised there was a piece of machinery on fire inside the building. Engine 7 requested an upgraded response of more apparatus. The fire was extinguished by DFD personnel. The fire was contained to the machinery and there was no damage to the building. There was a large amount of smoke inside the work area of the building. DFD firefighters and Unarco maintenance spent the next hour clearing the smoke so workers could reenter the building.
Materials inside the machine caught fire during maintenance of the equipment. A sprinkler head above the machine helped control the fire until it could be extinguished. The DFD responded with a total of three engines, one ladder, one safety officer, and four support vehicles. The Danville Life Saving Crew and Unarco maintenance provided support. DFD apparatus remained on scene for two hours. There were no injuries and the business will be able to resume normal activities.
