The Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 628 Edmonds Street this morning at 5:20 AM. Engine 3 arrived to a medium-sized two-story apartment building with smoke showing from the back of the building. The occupant advised everyone was out of the apartment on fire. Fire crews entered the building and extinguished the fire on the second floor. The adjacent apartments were cleared of occupants during this time. Fire damage was limited to the second floor. There is smoke and water damage to the rest of the apartment that was on fire. There was minor water and smoke damage to an adjacent apartment. The Housing Authority is helping the occupants and will be moving them to another apartment.
The cause of the fire was a hoverboard that was being charged in the room. The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, a safety officer, and three support vehicles. DFD apparatus stayed on scene for two hours. There were no injuries. We received assistance from the Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police, and Danville Utilities.
