The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Bradley Road at 9:53am today. Engine 5 (Third Ave.) arrived at 616 Bradley in three minutes with moderate smoke showing from the rear of the small, one-story house. They pulled a hose line off their apparatus around to the back of the house. Personnel entered the kitchen area and found it to be on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. A fan was set up to ventilate the smoke out of the residence. Apparatus also responded from Station #1 (Lynn St.) and Station #7 (Airport Dr.). A total of three engines, one ladder, and three support vehicles responded and were on scene for one hour and twenty minutes.
No one was home at the time of the incident. The Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and confirmed the cause was unattended cooking. The occupant is being offered assistance by the Red Cross. The DFD also received support from Danville Utilities, Danville Police, and Danville Life Saving Crew.
The DFD reminds everyone the number one cause of fire in Danville and across the United States is unattended cooking. Please remain in the kitchen while cooking, especially on the stove top. The kitchen received significant damage and the rest of the house has smoke and heat damage.
