The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the Budget Inn located at 1228 Piney Forest Road this morning (January 11, 2021) at 8:47 am. Engine 5’s crew from Third Avenue Fire Station arrived on scene at 8:52 am and found a large 1 story motel with heavy smoke and fire coming from room 110. Engine 5’s crew pulled a hand line and began attacking the fire from the outside to extinguish the fire. Engine 2’s crew (From Piney Forest Fire Station) established a water supply. Ladder 1’s crew (from Lynn Street Fire Station) along with Engine 2’s crew, began evacuating the rest of the motel rooms. Engine 7’s crew from Airport Fire Station established a RIT Team. Two additional Engines were requested for manpower. Engine 1’s crew (from Lynn Street Fire Station) pulled a backup hand line and Engine 3’s crew (from Industrial Ave Fire Station) assisted the occupants. The fire was knocked down at 9:24 am and determined to be under control at 10:44 am.
Room 110 sustained heavy fire damage with the rest of the motels 20 rooms sustaining moderate heat, smoke and water damage. One occupant was treated on scene by the Danville Life Saving Crew and released. No other injuries were reported.
The Danville Fire Department responded with five engines, a ladder truck, two command units, two safety officers and two Fire Marshals. Twenty eight personnel were on the scene for 3 hours and 17 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene. Piney Forest Road was shut down to traffic for approximately 2 hours. All lanes of traffic are now open.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office.
The numerous occupants of the motel are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
