[ARCHIVED] Structure Fires

The Danville Fire Department responded to structure fires on March 18, and 19, 2021.

On March 18, The Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 206 Watson Street around 5:50 PM.  Upon arrival fire units found light smoke coming from the rear of the structure.  The occupant advised that a small mattress was on fire on the back porch.  Danville fire fighters removed the mattress from the porch, and extinguished the fire with a water extinguisher.  The interior of the house sustained minor smoke damage, with minor damage to the rear porch, electric panel box, and plastic conduit.  Due to the electric panel box being compromised by the fire, the electricity was disconnected.

Three occupants were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.

The fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal, and determined to caused by a child playing with a lighter.

Four engines, two support vehicles, one Fire Marshal, and a Danville Electric Department vehicle responded to the fire. 16 fire personnel was on scene for approximately one hour.

The Fire Marshal would like to remind adults to store matches and lighters away from children as they are not toys and not to be touched by a child.  For additional information on fire safety for children contact the Danville Fire Department Fire Marshals office at 434-799-5226.

On March 19, the Danville fire Department responded to a structure fire at 182 Forestdale Drive.  Danville Fire Department units arrived to find a 1.5 story house with light smoke showing from the first floor door on the right side of the house.  The occupants were out of the house on the arrival of the first responding engine.  The fire was located just inside the door confined to the desk area.  The fire was knocked down with a water can and having a 1.75 inch hose line to fully extinguish the fire.

The fire originated from a wall outlet.  There was no fire extension inside of the wall.  The electric power was disconnected to the house until it could be repaired and inspected.

The fire was determined to be caused by a  malfunction in the electrical outlet.

The Danville Fire Department responded with four engines, two support vehicles for approximately 1.5 hours.

The Danville Fire Department recommend that all occupants check your smoke alarms, or call the Fire Department for assistance in checking alarms or installations.
