The Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire this morning (10/27/21) at 823 Glendale Avenue. The first arriving apparatus arrived at 5:38am and reported a small house with fire showing out of a window. Fire personnel entered the house through the front door and encountered significant fire in the first room. The fire was quickly knocked down with a single handline. Utilities were disconnected and a search of the house did not turn up any occupants. The house is a "hoarder" house with extensive items throughout the house piled at least three foot high. This made controlling and overhauling the fire a tough task. The fire was deep-seated in the contents. Much of the contents had to be removed by hand to find any hidden fire.
The DFD responded with Engine 5 (Third Ave.), Engine 2 (Piney Forest Rd.), Engine 7 (Airport Dr.), Ladder 1 (Lynn St.), Battalion 1 (Lynn St.), and a safety officer (Lynn St.). The Fire Marshal's Office also responded to investigate the fire. As of 10:00am, personnel remain on scene sifting through the contents looking for hidden fire and attempting to find the fire cause. Fifteen fire personnel responded to the initial call.
We were assisted by the Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Utilities, and the Danville Police Dept. The house was not occupied at the time and there have been no injuries.
