The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire shortly after 7PM on Easter Sunday at 1428 Myrtle Ave. The first arriving Engine from the 3rd Avenue station reported moderate smoke coming from the front door on arrival. Further investigation discovered a fire in the kitchen, a quick aggressive interior fire attack was made and the fire was brought under control rapidly. The fire caused moderate damage in the kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the remainder of the home. Four residents were displaced because of the fire and the American Red Cross is assisting the residents with temporary living arrangements. Three Engines, one Ladder truck, and two support vehicles along with 16 fire personnel were on scene for almost two hours. The fire department was assisted by the Danville Life Saving Crew, the Danville Police Department, and City Utilities during the emergency.
The Danville Fire Department would like to remind you to please never leave your cooking stove in use unattended, as kitchen fires are the leading cause of fires in homes.
