At approximately 9am this morning, the Danville Fire Department Regional Flood/Swiftwater Rescue Team was activated by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management as a Type 3 team with orders to respond to Mecklenburg County to assist the Virginia State Police and local responders with a search for a missing man who had been swept away by flash flooding last night in the Bracey community, near Lake Gaston. The department mobilized seven team members, boats, and equipment and responded to the call for help. Once the team arrived, members performed searches of the creek and wooded area where the victim was last scene, along with a search of a portion of Lake Gaston where the creek fed into. The team was demobilized at 5:30pm and safely arrived back in Danville tonight around 9:30pm. The Virginia State Police and local agencies will continue the search tomorrow morning.
