The Danville Fire Department was alerted to a report of a house fire at 211 Broad Street this afternoon around 1pm. The engine company from Industrial Ave. was the first to arrive and found the back porch on fire, which sustained damage along with the siding on the house and a portion of the floor joists in the crawl space. The fire was extinguished and the smoke removed from the house. The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office and found to be discarded smoking materials. Thankfully, only very minor damage occurred inside the home, which will allow the residents to continue to stay there. The fire department would like to remind residents to be sure to properly discard their smoking materials and have a working smoke alarm in your home.
