Today, January 28th, 2025, the Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 640 Edmonds Street. Dispatchers radioed to fire department units that there was fire in the basement and a dog inside of the house. The call came into the stations at 2:37 p.m. and the first arriving fire engine arrived at 2:40 p.m. for a total turn out time of 2 minutes and 43 seconds. Engine 3 was the first on scene and reported smoke and fire from the basement. Soon after Engine 3 arrived, Engines 1, 4, Ladder 1, Safety 1, Fire Marshal 2, and Chief 1 arrived on scene to assist with extinguishing the fire. Engine 3 made entrance to the house from the rear and extinguished the fire, rapidly. Ladder 1 performed a search of the entire building and fire crews found the deceased dog in the basement. The fire department remained on scene until the scene was secure and the fire was out. The Danville Fire Marshal's office investigated and found the cause of the fire was faulty electrical.
Engine 3 cleared from the call at 4:53, with a total time of 2 hours and 16 minutes. There were a total of 19 firefighters on scene, 3 DLSC members, a police officer, and 3 utilities employees.
