The Danville Police Department arrested a 32-year-old Danville man after he refused to surrender for more than five hours this evening.
Members of the Danville Police Department spotted James Edward Wells, who was wanted for seven different criminal charges, at approximately 3 p.m. Wells fled into an apartment building located in the 100 block of White Street.
Wells refused to vacate the apartment he entered. He then talked to officers from a distance before he made attempts to flee through two apartments and accessed the roof system. Multiple attempts to communicate occurred over the five-hour period.
After hours of de-escalation attempts, Mr. Wells surrendered from an attic area with no force necessary in his arrest.
The incident included patrol, investigations, SWAT, and assistance from the Danville Fire Department.
Wells was served with warrants for felony burglary, felony larceny of a firearm, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, misdemeanor assault and battery on family members, misdemeanor trespass, and two counts of misdemeanor destruction of property.
He was transported to the Danville City Jail.
