Trade & Industry Development, a leading publication for site selection professionals, recently announced Microporous, a manufacturer of lithium-ion battery separators, as a recipient of the 2025 CiCi (Corporate Investment, Community Impact) Award in the category for corporate investment.
In November of 2024, Microporous announced plans to invest $1.35 billion and establish a new manufacturing facility in Pittsylvania County, creating 2,015 new jobs. The company will develop on Lot 1 of the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill.
Regional partners, including the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance, and the Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority (RIFA), were recognized for their strategic collaboration in this historic investment.
“We are honored to be recognized with a 2025 CiCi Award alongside our regional partners for the transformative investment by Microporous,” said Corrie Bobe, Director of Economic Development & Tourism for the City of Danville. “This project is a testament to the power of regional collaboration and the strength of our shared vision for Southern Virginia. The investment at the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill will not only create thousands of quality jobs but also position our region as a hub for innovation and advanced manufacturing.”
Danville City Manager Ken Larking said receiving the 2025 CiCi award is proof that our region is making the right kinds of investments to attract high-quality jobs. “I am proud of the way the City Council, Board of Supervisors, City and County staff, and our partners are able to work together to put Danville in a position to compete for transformational projects like the Microporous expansion,” Larking said.
In total, fifteen projects received recognition, bringing in nearly $63 billion in private corporate investment and creating or retaining over 12,000 jobs across the country.
