In an effort to better serve Danville and the surrounding community, Danville Parks and Recreation is asking residents how to “play it your way?”
The department recently launched a community-needs assessment, a 25-question survey covering topics from the skate park to trail management. The questionnaire is available on line at www.PlayDanvilleVA.com or can be picked up and returned to the Danville Public Library, Ballou Recreation Center or at the Parks and Recreation main office on Floyd Street.
Over 2,000 surveys were mailed to a random selection of homes in the Danville area along with a self-addressed stamped envelope.
“This is an exciting time for us,” said department director Bill Sgrinia. “This gives us an opportunity to ask the citizens what recreational needs they have and what interests they have in regards to recreation. If you were among the homes to receive the survey in the mail, please take the time to fill it out and drop it in the mail.”
The data that will be gathered from the assessment will help the department develop a strategic five year plan and will guide Parks and Recreation in its provision of services and facilities.
As a thank you, the department is giving away several $50 gas cards. The winners will be drawn from the survey respondents.
“Our mission is to engage the community and enhance lives through people, places and services,” added Sgrinia. “We can’t reach that goal without feedback from the citizens. We always savor the opportunity to hear what our neighbors have to say.”
The deadline to fill out the survey is June 28.
Some of the questions from the survey include:
• As a parks and recreation provider, what functions do you feel are important for Danville Parks and Recreation to provide?
• What are the most important uses of Danville’s parks to you?
• What aspects of the Riverwalk trail development are most important to you?
• Of the Parks and Recreation activities in which you have participated over the past year, how would you rank them in terms of their importance to the community?
