The city of Danville will restrict travel to one lane along Main Street downtown over the next three to four weeks in order to allow for the construction of crosswalks at intersections of the streetscape project. Weather permitting, the work will begin on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Traffic initially will be restricted to one-way, southbound travel in the 300 and 400 blocks. The work will progress up one side of Main Street from Market Street to Floyd Street, then switch to the other side, working from Floyd Street to Market Street.
The timeframe for completion of the work at each intersection will vary, depending on factors such as the weather. Message boards are in place at Main and Ridge streets and at Main Street and Memorial Drive to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.
On-street parking will still be available in each block during construction.
The construction of crosswalks is one of the final steps in the first phase of the city’s streetscape project. Final additions, such as landscaping, are scheduled for completion by mid-November.
