Craghead Street is now open to thru traffic following reconstruction of a culvert under the street near Colquohoun Street and repairs to an adjacent sanitary sewer line. A construction crew completed the work Wednesday afternoon.
The street was closed to through traffic on Oct. 20 when the culvert became unstable. The culvert – a hand-constructed brick culvert with an arched top – required structural engineers to develop designs that would stabilize the culvert and prevent possible collapse.
During the reconstruction, the crew discovered needed repairs to the sewer line adjacent the culvert.
When the detour was established, the Public Works Department provided directional signage to help customers of businesses in the area to navigate through the work zone.
