City Council will meet Tuesday, Jan. 19, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
During next week’s business session, Dr. Stanley Jones, superintendent of Danville Public Schools, is scheduled to provide a “State of the School District” report.
The agenda also includes votes on the following items:
• funding for the Patton Street drainage project,
• rezoning of two parcels in the Five Forks commercial corner,
• a permit to allow a proposed hotel at Riverside Drive and Audubon Drive to exceed height permissible under city code,
• amending rules and regulations for city-owned cemeteries to reflect changes to holiday service and concrete marker bases,
• changes to airport operating standards regarding aircraft maintenance and fueling,
• creation of an electrical distribution rate that would provide large industries with a rate comparable to Virginia utilities such as Appalachian Power,
• a resolution of support for state legislation allowing the creation of land bank entities,
• a resolution of support for state legislation requiring tax certification during real estate transactions.
For the work session, two items are on the agenda. One is a discussion of procedural rules regarding time limits for speakers during public hearings The second item is a review of the latest financial statements.
