Mayor Sherman Saunders on Monday issued a statement on behalf of Danville City Council, to say “thank you” to City employees for exemplary work in responding to Winter Storm Jonas.
“No one can control ‘acts of nature,’ but you were prepared for this situation, the decisions you made and actions you took during this event as it developed were correct, and your effort was tireless,” Saunders said. “This storm could have been much worse. The reason it was not worse, we suggest, is your response.”
For the safety and well-being of citizens, Saunders said a primary goal is to make citizens aware of possible occurrences, as well as give helpful suggestions on what to do in the event of a crisis. “It also has been our goal to keep citizens informed throughout such uncertain times,” Saunders said. “Our City workers succeeded at the highest level.”
He offered a special thanks to citizens for taking seriously the warnings and advice of public safety and other City personnel. “Your patience, understanding and cooperation are appreciated more than we can express. You, too, were a major part in preserving safety for everyone.
“We also extend special thanks to all media outlets for keeping our citizens informed.”
