City Council will meet Tuesday, Feb. 2, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
During next week’s business session, City Council will hold a public hearing on a request by Piedmont Place I LLC to rezone seven individual parcels on the corner of Westover Drive and Jerry Drive from residential to highway retail commercial. The properties previously belonged to the Wentz Estate and were sold to Piedmont Place I in December. Four of the parcels have had their primary structures demolished and the three houses that remain are vacant and in poor condition. Earlier this month, the Planning Commission voted to recommend that City Council approve the rezoning request.
A public hearing will be held on a request by the Industrial Development Authority to rezone property on Bishop Road from a manufacturing designation to an office designation to allow for consolidation with an adjacent parcel. The Planning Commission has recommended approval.
A third public hearing will be held on a request by KFG Properties LLC for a special use permit to allow for the operation of a convenience and deli store without gasoline sales at 541 North Main St. The Planning Commission has recommended denial of the permit.
For the work session, four items are on the agenda:
• discussion of removing the White Mill Dam,
• entering into a purchase power agreement for six megawatts of renewable solar peaking generation power to be constructed within the Danville Utilities service territory,
• presentation on crime reduction strategies,
• discussion of rules of procedure for the Council
River City TV, the city’s government access channel, will air the business session. Watch it live on cable (Comcast channel 10 and Gamewood channel 122) or streaming at RiverCityTV.org or the city's YouTube channel – DanvilleVaGov.
River City TV does not air work sessions, but they are open to the public.
