The High Street entrance to the Charles Harris Financial Service Center at 311 Memorial Drive will be closed beginning Monday, April 11, to allow construction that will improve traffic flow at the center by expanding the existing lanes for drop box and drive-thru services.
Construction will take about six weeks. During this time, customers will need to use the entrance from Memorial Drive for all services.
Drive-thru service temporarily will be unavailable at some point during construction. Drop box service will remain open for customers who want to park and walk to the drop box deposit site.
When complete, three drive-thru lanes will be available to customers for drive-thru service from the High Street entrance to the High Street exit. Currently, the drive-thru begins as two lanes, and then splits to three lanes as customers approach the window and the drop box. The current configuration creates lines of traffic and unnecessary waiting for customers who simply wish to use the drop box. The new configuration will create a “drop box only” lane that begins at the High Street entrance.
The three drive-thru lanes only will be accessible from High Street. Currently, the lanes are accessible from both High Street and the main parking lot, which is directly accessed from Memorial Drive. Traffic often backs up into the main parking lot as customers attempt to enter the drive-thru lanes from the parking, but must wait for an opportunity to enter the drive-thru lanes.
When the project is complete, the main parking lot will be separated from the drive-thru lanes. Separating the two areas will facilitate parking for customers because there no longer will be drive-thru traffic preventing customers from accessing available parking spaces.
The project is being funded as part of the City’s capital improvement program.
