Danville Parks and Recreation’s Music on Main concert series, presented by Danville Regional Medical Center, will continue in the River District at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, with bluegrass sound of The Molly Rose Band from the Cascade community in Pittsylvania County.
The four-member band features Mark Hudson on guitar, David Lewis on mandolin, Gary Baird on upright bass and Lynwood Lunsford on banjo. Lunsford has performed for 39 years, and he won first place for bluegrass banjo at the 2014 Galax Fiddler’s Convention. Hudson sings lead and Lewis sings tenor.
Reno & Smiley, Jimmy Martin, Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, The Country Gentlemen, and Lost & Found are among the bluegrass greats who influenced the sound of The Molly Rose Band.
The concert is free and will be held at Main Street Plaza at 111 Main St. The public is encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
The other remaining shows in the series are:
• West End Mambo on July 21, featuring classic salsa and Latin jazz.
• Rope Warrior David Fisher and UR Mom( band) on Aug. 18, Back to School Night
All shows will be held at 6:30 p.m. In case of bad weather, shows will be relocated to the Community Market at 629 Craghead St.
