Everybody’s workin’ for the weekend! No plans yet? Don't worry! Here are the best things to do in Danville this weekend. Ready? Let’s go!

FOOTBALL FEVER

When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: J.T. Christopher Stadium

After two away games and a bye, George Washington High School will host rival Franklin County High School in conference action. GW is 1-2 and will look to rebound following its 56-28 loss two weeks ago at E.C. Glass. Franklin County is 2-2, with a 49-27 win last week over Christiansburg. Kickoff is 7 p.m. The weather forecast calls for mostly clear skies and a temperature in the high 70s at kickoff.


26TH ANNUAL DANVILLE PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY FAIR

When: Through Saturday
Where: Danville Pittsylvania County Fairgrounds, 1861 Milton Hwy, Ringgold, VA

Come celebrate 26 years of fun and excitement at the 2016 Annual Fair! This year’s event continues through Saturday, Sept. 24. This weekend, the fair features extreme a demolition derby at 7:30 p.m. on both on Friday and Saturday. James E. Strates Shows runs a midway featuring your favorite rides, games and shows. HEACOCK CLASSIC GOLD CUP HISTORIC RACES

When: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Virginia International Raceway, 1245 Pine Tree Road, Alton, VA

Don’t miss the racing action this September as two distinct racing eras collide for the Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races. Fantastic vintage cars meet modern Trans-Ams at one of America’s top rated road courses, VIRginia International Raceway. This family fun event includes complementary parking as well as free admission for children 16 and under with each paying adult. Starting bright and early Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25, everyone is welcome to join the crowd and be a part of a race where the cars are the stars. More information: www.virnow.com


FALL BOOK FESTIVAL
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday
Where: Brewed Awakening, 610 Craghead St.

Brewed Awakening is operating in its second year in the River District. In addition to serving gourmet coffees, lattes, smoothies, ice cream and food menu options, owners John and Bonnie Hale host special events. This book festival features local and regional authors. The genres represented range from children’s books to novels, from history to horror and from inspirational to homespun literature.


OLD 97 RAIL DAYS

When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Sunday
Where: Danville Science Center, 677 Craghead St., Danville, VA

Attention train buffs: Enjoy N-scale model trains as they travel through tiny towns and rural areas courtesy of numerous N-scale clubs. Trains run and weave along multi-layer tracks crossing artistic landscapes of mountains, valleys and rivers. Also visit the Science Center’s fully restored 1948 Norfolk & Western Caboose along the train tracks. Be sure to check out a miniature version of the Old 97 wreck scene in the center’s historic train station as well as the model train gallery, featuring the Jack Estlow train layout.
