Danville city officials joined other area leaders and citizens Sunday afternoon for the grand opening of the Centra Danville Medical Center at 414 Park Ave. The facility, which opened to the public today, offers offering primary care, urgent care, cardiology, mammography, plastic surgery, sports medicine, urology, physical therapy and rehabilitation.
Vice Mayor Alonzo Jones congratulated Centra executives and employees for working hard to make the facility a reality.
“When I speak to groups and at events such as this, I like to talk about the Danville spirit that exists today,” Jones said. “It is a spirit that declares the status quo is a no-go. Our credo today for the way things work in Danville is ‘Reimagine That.’ … That spirit is the story of Centra, and that spirit is the story of this facility.”
Jones said the facility not only consolidates Centra’s medical offices, but it recognizes the national shift in health care toward population health and wellness. “I am also encouraged by the fact that this facility can expand in a number of directions based on our community’s needs,” Jones said. “So, let us also celebrate that today’s grand opening is not an endpoint, but a beginning.”
Jones closed by saying the facility represents a commitment to the community.
Centra broke ground on the facility 16 months ago. At Sunday’s grand opening ceremony, E.W. Tibbs, president and CEO of Centra talked about the staff’s commitment to supplying excellent medical care.
“This building behind me doesn’t take care of a single person,” Tibbs said. “It is a tool by which unbelievably committed men and women change lives. I trust every one of them I have no doubt they will take care of you just like family.”
The facility includes about 9,000 square feet of shell space for expansion on the second floor. Tibbs assured the crowd that the space would not stay empty for long.
