RIVER DISTRICT FESTIVAL
When: Thursday evening, Friday evening, all-day Saturday and Sunday afternoon
Where: Throughout the River District
The River District Festival is in its sixth year. Activities and events begin Thursday with music at various locations along Main and Union streets from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., plus art and history exhibits at the plaza at 341 Main Street, Danvillian Gallery at 210 North Union St., and Elks Lodge at 560 Main St. The first day of events concludes with a beer garden and D.J. at the Main Street parking lot from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Friday, Danville Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Glow with the Flow 5k beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Main Street Plaza. Averett University will hold its hometown party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Community Market.
On Saturday, activities and events begin at 10 a.m. at various locations in the River District, including the YMCA, Bridge Street, Newton’s Landing and Carrington Pavilion. Walk around and enjoy the scenery or ride the trolley to all the locations. The trolley will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every 30 minutes. Stops will be at the Community Market (west parking lot) and at the YMCA. Saturday’s events conclude with a concert from 6 p.m. to 10.m. at the Carrington Pavilion featuring 97.1 WQMG's DJ T-Luv, Natural Wonder's tributes to Stevie Wonder and mellow grooves with R&B's sensational trio SWV. Concert tickets are on sale now.
The festival concludes on Sunday with a a choir extravaganza from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carrington plaza. Tickets are $5 at the door.

FOOTBALL FEVER
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Where: J.T. Christopher Stadium, 701 Broad Street, Danville, VA
George Washington High School last week remained undefeated in conference play (3-0) and pushed its overall record to 5-2 with a 54-0 victory in Stuart over rival Patrick County. This Friday, the Eagles will host Martinsville, which last week won its first conference game and extended its overall record to 4-2 after defeating Halifax County by a score of 42-0. Kickoff is 7 p.m. The weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies. The temperature will be in the low 60s at kickoff.
DANVILLE COMEDY CLUB SHOW
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Historic North Theatre, 629 North Main St, Danville, VA
Dionne Alexander will be the headliner. He has been seen on BET Comic View, and others. Dionne brings his life, aging, fatherhood, and military background to the stage with laughs all around.
Joy Julian will be the feature performer. She has appeared on Happily Never After, Monsters & Mysteries in America, and Ice Cold Killers. She has also appeared in local television commercials. She has performed with Norfolk-based improv group, The Pushers, and their production Panties in a Twist: All Female Sketch Comedy Show. Joy has performed stand-up with Brett Leake, Lynn Koplitz, Guy Torry, Keith Alberstadt and many others.
Because of Alexander being a veteran, all active military are welcomed for free and all veterans are admitted for $5 off. Since Ms. Julian is a cancer survivor, $1 of each ticket will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

BE PART OF THE AVERETT TEAMS
When: Various times Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Where: Averett North Campus, 707 Mount Cross Road, Danville, VA
The women’s volleyball team and women’s soccer teams, along with the football team will be in action in Danville this weekend. The football game will be part of the university’s homecoming activities.
At 7 p.m. Friday, the volleyball team resumes USA South Conference play with a contest against William Peace University at the Grant Center. Averett is 10-0 in the USA South and 18-7 overall.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, the women’s soccer team will host Greensboro College in conference action on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium. At 1 p.m. Sunday, Averett will host William Peace University. Averett is 6-5 overall.
At 6 p.m. Saturday, the football team takes on Greensboro College in its USA South Conference opener on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium. Averett will be playing for the first time since Oct. 8 when it defeated LaGrange 65-62 in four overtimes. Last week’s scheduled game against Methodist University was canceled due to Hurricane Matthew. The Cougars are 2-2 overall.

VEHICLE RUN DAY
When: 10 a.m. – 4 P.M. Saturday
Where: AAF Tank Museum, 3401 U.S. Hwy 29, Danville, VA
See them move, feel them tremble and hear them roar as a variety of wheeled and tracked vehicles will be run throughout the day. Exhibition times are 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Regular admission applies: $12 adults, $10 for children under 12 and adults over 60. Kids age 4 and under are admitted free.
