The Police Department honored officers at an awards and recognition ceremony held on Wednesday. Five officers received letters of commendation for public service and a sixth officer received a lifesaving award.
The officers receiving letters of commendation were Cpl. Nicole Jeffries, Cpl. Richard Chivvis, officer Carnell Jackson, officer Samantha Gillespie and officer David Clark.
Officer Dale English received the lifesaving award for responding to a fainted man on Feb. 4, 2016. English administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man, who later was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center, where he regained a pulse and respiration.
Officers Anthony Harn, Derrick Lancaster and Dustin Shively received letters of recognitions for top performances for traffic safety for 2016. Lancaster made 48 charges related to child safety seat violations and 62 charges related to seat belt violations, making him the top performer in both categories.
Shively was the top performer for charges of driving under the influence, giving out 13 related charges, and Harn made 171 charges related to speeding.
Shannon Conner and Regina Martin received certificates of recognitions for their retirements.
