UPDATE POSTED AT 9 A.M. THURSDAY: The section of Trade Street that was closed from Advance Street to Danville Stadium Cinemas 12 due to flooding has been reopened. All streets in the city are now open.
As of 8 a.m. today, the Dan River at Danville was at 13.24 feet, which is below the flood stage of 17.7 feet. The river crested at 9 p.m. Tuesday at 25.31 feet, which is the fifth highest level recorded. The highest level was 28.65 feet on Sept. 7, 1996, due to rainfall from Hurricane Fran.

Public Works has reopened Goodyear Boulevard from the U.S. 29 bypass to Gypsum Road. Trade Street at Advance Street will remain closed until Thursday morning.

Public Works crews continue to monitor street conditions. Currently, Goodyear Boulevard from the U.S. 29 bypass to Gypsum Road remains closed due to flooding. In addition, Trade Street at Advance Street is closed.
The Riverwalk Trail also remains closed.
The National Weather Service reports that the Dan River crested overnight at a lower level than expected; however, a warning for moderate flooding remains in effect until Thursday morning.
At 9 p.m. Tuesday, the river crested at 25.31 feet, which is the fifth highest level recorded. The highest level was 28.65 feet on Sept. 7, 1996, due to rainfall from Hurricane Fran.
Significant flooding continues along the Dan River from Danville downstream to South Boston and beyond as a result of excessive rainfall of 3-6 inches that fell across much of the river basin during the past several days. Moderate to major flooding will continue through Thursday in many of these areas.

Public Works crews have closed Goodyear Boulevard from the U.S. 29 bypass to Gypsum Road due to flooding. In addition to Goodyear Boulevard, Trade Street at Advance Street is closed.
All other streets remain open as of 7:15 a.m., including River Street.
However, motorists who travel River Street are advised to slow down and proceed with caution or consider an alternate route because of water running across the street. A Public Works crew at River Street is directing traffic along the street. Crews have been pumping water from the street since midnight.
Crews will continue to monitor street conditions throughout the day.
