City Council will meet Tuesday, Jan. 16, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. Both sessions are open to the public.
The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
During the business session, City Council is scheduled to vote on whether to name the main library building on Patton Street as “The Ruby B. Archie Public Library.” A former mayor, Archie taught English in Danville Public Schools for 37 years at Langston and George Washington high schools before retiring in 1993. She also served on City Council from 1994-2010
In addition, City Council is scheduled to vote on the style and design of the sign to be placed on the building honoring Archie.
City Council also is scheduled to vote on two other matters Tuesday night:
- a revision in financial policies to allow for a possible reduction in transfers from Utility Funds to the General Fund if the average investment in fixed assets decreases over a five-year period. Currently, the policy does not allow for a decrease in this transfer for any reason. The decrease will be limited to the lesser of the actual decrease in the average five-year investment in fixed assets or 1 percent.
- appointments to the Fair Housing Board.
During the work session, City Council will review the latest the financial statements and a right-of-way maintenance schedule for cutting roadside slopes, alleys, center medians and grass strips between the property line and the edge of the pavement.
River City TV, the city’s government access channel, will air the business session. Watch it live on cable (Comcast channel 10 and Gamewood channel 122) or streaming on the River City TV Facebook page.
River City TV does not air work sessions, but they are open to the public.
