Parks and Recreation once again will offer a full lineup of holiday events in December, beginning this weekend with the 10th annual Holiday Market, the Luminaria Trail Walk and the Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade.
Here is the December schedule:
10th Annual Holiday Market
Saturday, Dec. 1, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visit the Danville Farmers’ Market for a special Holiday Market featuring everything you need to get ready for your holiday get-togethers, including:
- Handmade crafts, jewelry, artwork and other unique gifts
- Delicious baked goods and other homemade foods
- Handmade wreaths and centerpieces
- Locally grown Christmas trees
- And much more!
We will also host our Annual Breakfast with Santa Claus from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Enjoy pancakes, pictures, and visits with Santa. Sponsored by the Danville Girl Scouts. This event is free to attend. Call (434) 797-8961.
Luminaria Trail Walk
Celebrate the season with a candlelit stroll along the Riverwalk while listening to beautiful holiday music from carolers. Warm, festive refreshments will be served. This annual event is a favorite of all ages. Call (434) 799-5150.

Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade
This year’s parade will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. Judging will take place prior to the parade and winning entries will be recognized along the parade route. This year's theme is "A Christmas Story Book.” The parade route will begin at Rison and Broad Streets and continue downtown ending at Main and Craghead Streets. Join us for a fabulous display of floats, cars, marching bands, marching units and more. Greet Santa and Mrs. Claus and welcome the holiday season. Holly Jolly Holiday Party
Christmas comes but once a year; let’s get together for some holiday cheer. Join us for a festive holiday gathering. Delightful entertainment provided by Indiana Kidd, who will sing a host of holiday songs that will capture your heart as well as ignite wonderful memories. COAY Christmas Ball
Christmas is a time of reflection, a time for good cheer, a time for friends and family, during this special time of the year! Enjoy the holidays and dance the night away with the Council on Aging Youthfully. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the band starting at 7 p.m. Call (434) 799-5216.

Community Holiday Light Show
Ballou Park will be lit up Dec. 8-25. The show is made up entirely of displays created by the community. More than 11,200 people attended in 2017 in 2,560 cars and 18 buses, and this year promises to be even better. Registered local non-profits will be eligible to receive prize money for the “Best in Show” award. Monetary prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place. Show hours: Sunday-Thursday: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Children’s Village, which is included in the price of admission, will be open through Dec. 23 until 9 p.m. daily.
