The City of Danville today announced that the 2019 aerial photographs are now available on its geographic information systems (GIS) website using the Parcel Viewer application.
The photos were taken between Jan. 1 and Jan. 6 with a 3-inch resolution. At this high resolution, details that can be seen include power lines and other small infrastructure details, individual people and animals, and fine details on roads including markings and skid marks.
The new images allow residents to compare how the community has developed over the years. The parcel viewer application contains prior aerial imagery from 2015, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2002, 1981, 1962, and 1948.
Citizens can view the aerials free of charge. To access the application, go the website homepage and click on “Parcel Viewer.” Launch the application and then click on the dropdown menu in the upper right corner of the map screen.
The GIS division of the Department of Information Technology oversees the Parcel Viewer application as well as the use and development of other location-based information systems.
