The Virginia Department of Transportation has opened all lanes on the Danville Expressway/U.S. 29 Bypass near Barkers Branch. The remaining signage also has been removed, and there are no travel restrictions.
The emergency repair project, which began in early December, is now complete.
The repairs were required following the failure of the 84-inch underground pipe at Barkers Branch. The work required lane closures, detours, and construction of temporary crossovers, with both northbound and southbound traffic using the southbound lanes while the northbound lanes were closed.
Last month, the northbound lanes were reopened and the temporary crossovers removed. However, southbound traffic remained restricted to one lane to allow for repairs to the southbound bridge.
