The Mount Cross Road improvement project will enter its second phase on Monday, Sept. 9. The switch to the next phase will require a change in the traffic pattern through the work zone, with travel shifting onto the lanes graded and paved during the first phase.
Motorists should slow down when approaching this area and be alert to altered traffic patterns. On Monday, motorists can expect delays as the shift operation takes place.
Electronic message boards are in place at each end of the work zone on Mount Cross Road. A message board also is in place at the entrance to Dimon Drive.
The project involves the installation of storm drains and the widening of Mount Cross Road from Lowe’s Drive to Dimon Drive to five lanes, with a center turn lane. Expansion is necessary because of increasing traffic volume in that area.
The project, which covers about three-tenths of a mile, began in November and is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.
Virginia Carolina Paving is the contractor.
