Due to the dry weather conditions, the Danville Fire Department is instituting a ban on open burning without a permit in the city. The dry conditions are favorable for the rapid spread of fires.
The ban will remain in place until further notice.
Violation of the ban is a Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,500, imprisonment not exceeding 12 months or both.
During these dry conditions, the public should be extremely careful when discarding cigarettes, charcoal, or any other items that could cause a fire.
