City Council will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 7, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. Both sessions are open to the public.
The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
During the business session, City Council is scheduled to vote on a resolution that would ask the General Assembly for permission to conduct a local sales tax referendum. In the referendum, voters would decide whether to allow the City to levy an additional 1 percent local sales tax. Proceeds would go toward school construction and renovation.
Danville Public Schools has identified significant capital construction and renovation needs throughout the school system.
In other matters, City Council is scheduled to vote on several requests for special use permits to allow for commercial indoor recreation at various locations. The applicants propose to provide indoor gaming activities in addition to the existing on-site use. These gaming activities include an opportunity to obtain money. Public hearings will precede the votes.
During the work session, the City Council will receive program and economic development updates. In addition, City Council will hold a closed meeting as allowed by state law to discuss a prospective business or industry related to economic development and to discuss the acquisition of real property or disposition of publicly held real property.
