Parks and Recreation centers and the Public Library will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27. Parks and Recreation programs during this period are canceled.
The decision to close these facilities and cancel programs was made to limit public gatherings in response to concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The time period is consistent with Governor Ralph Northam’s order today that all K-12 schools in Virginia be closed. Schools will close from Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27, at a minimum.
No major recreation events are scheduled in Danville for the next two weeks. Parks and trails will remain open.
Public Library fees and fines will be delayed until the library reopens. Customers may use the dropbox for returning books.
The City Council’s meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17, as scheduled. Citizens who are involved with business items on the agenda and citizens who wish to speak on non-agenda topics during the open communications period can attend. Other citizens are encouraged to watch the proceedings on River City TV, which airs all business sessions on its cable channel and Facebook page.
The Charles H. Harris Financial Service Center will remain open for business as usual. Still, citizens are encouraged to use one of the various payment methods that do not involve face-to-face contact and avoid coming into the financial center if possible.
Customers have the options of online payment, payment by mail, payment at the drive-thru window, and payment at the dropbox (during and after work hours but no cash allowed).
