City Council will meet on Tuesday, July 21, in a business session. No work session is scheduled. The business session will begin at 7 p.m. and will be aired by River City TV.
The session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St. The meeting is open to the public, but attendees may have their temperature screened and must maintain social distancing due to ongoing public health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus.
Also, visitors will be asked to wear a mask while in the building unless they have a medical condition that exempts them from the mask requirement.
Access to the Municipal Building is limited to the first-floor entrance (Police Department) on Court Street.
River City TV, the city’s government access channel, will air the meeting. Watch it live on cable (Comcast channel 10 and Gamewood channel 122) or streaming on the River City TV Facebook page.
City Council is scheduled to vote on acquiring the two lots on Washington Street for better access and visibility into Market Garden Park. Based on input from citizens living near Market Garden Park, one of the issues with the use of the playground, which was installed in 2019, is of access and visibility.
By adding this property to Market Garden, we will, in the future, be able to add additional access off of Washington Street and provide better visibility of the playground area.
City Council also is scheduled to vote on several other matters:
- A resolution authorizing the city manager to submit a one-year and five-year action plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A public hearing will precede the vote.
- Mayor’s appointments of City Council members to various boards and commissions:
- Madison Whittle to the Dan River Business Development Center.
- Sherman Saunders to the Danville Development Council.
- Lee Vogler and Vice Mayor Gary Miller to the Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority.
- Vogler and Larry Campbell Jr. to the Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority.
- Miller to the Danville Utility Commission.
- Saunders to the Employee Retirement System.
- Vogler and James Buckner to the Metropolitan Planning Organization.
- Vogler and Buckner to the West Piedmont Planning District Commission.
- Barry Mayo to the Pittsylvania County Community Action Board.
- Buckner to the Transportation Advisory Board.
