The City Council on Tuesday night voted to authorize Danville Transit to offer free bus service in the city on Election Day. The free service is to encourage interested persons to vote by removing transportation as a barrier.
The service will be provided for all Danville Transit operations, which include fixed-route and reservation-based service. Fixed route service reaches a majority of polling locations. The reservation-based Reserve A Ride is a door-to-door service.
In other matters, City Council voted to:
- Acquire parcels of Stokes, Paxton and Lee streets. The acquisitions will allow for improvement to the streetscape along parts of the boundary of the Monument-Berryman Redevelopment area.
- Appoint Faye Brown and reappoint Vanessa Cain to the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority board.
- Reappoint Courtney Nicholas and Andrew Hessler to the River District Design Commission.
- Amend the budget to include a $91,550 federal grant for use in establishing a program for proactive police response to prevent domestic violence.
These matters took place during the Council’s business session. Also during the business session, Mayor Alonzo Jones recognized the City of Danville’s Treasurer’s Office for achieving accreditation.
