Newly elected Councilman Bryant Hood was sworn into office prior to Tuesday night’s meeting of City Council.
Hood last month won the special election held to determine who would finish the term of former City Councilman Adam Tomer. The term is slated to end June 30, 2022. Tomer resigned earlier this year because he was moving out of the city.
“I want to thank the citizens of Danville for giving me the opportunity to serve on this City Council,” Bryant said at the close of last night’s business session. “This is new to me, but my heart is big for it. My concern is for it (this city). I will do the due diligence (required to serve as a council member).”
During the business session, Council members took turns welcoming Hood to the board. They cited his many years of work in the community, calling Hood a great community servant.
Council members also cited the congenial atmosphere that exists on the City Council. Councilman Sherman Saunders summed it up, saying, “You are joining a great team. The thing that I like about our team is that we often agree, but sometimes we disagree. That’s OK. Quite frankly, I hope we disagree because that is when we learn. We learn from different opinions.”
Hood won the seat with 7,163 votes or 38.78 percent of the ballots cast. Former councilman Fred Shanks garnered 7,018 votes or 38.0 percent of the ballots cast. Petrina Carter took 22.66 percent of the votes for a total of 4,185.
